Australia is now the fourth largest wine exporter in the world. It exports about half of the wine it produces, over 400 million liters. In the past 30 years, Australian wines have developed a reputation for quality, especially in certain wine grape varieties.
Australian made wine has experienced pretty long history, where the first made wine was available for sale domestically by 1820s. Australia is part of the New World of wine producers, which is a respected leader in combining tradition with new ideas and technical innovation and produces a diversity of wine styles.
Australia produces varied grape in both colors Red and White. Of the red grape varieties, the most popular are Shiraz (also known as Syrah), Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The major varieties of White grape include Chardonnay, Semillon, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
Over 50 wine- growing regions exist in Australia, where over 60% of Australian wine grapes are red. Most of Australian vines are planted in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia and some in the states of Queensland and Tasmania as well.
